Grown-ups used to tell us to always stop, look and listen. It’s important traffic advice when you’re a kid who needs rules for crossing the street, of course, but there was always more to it than that. It was also an indirect way of letting us know that we need to notice the world around us and not just keep our eyes and ears glued to our objectives.

But after turning into career-focused grown-ups ourselves, we now often look down on the things we once embraced with childlike acceptance. We forget about our capacity to be wide-eyed about the world. We no longer stop to smell the roses.

Just keep it as a little daily reminder, especially for when you’re stressed out, that the world is as beautiful a place as you allow it to be.

PS: This real time video of the night sky over Mount Victoria in Wellington, New Zealand was shot by photographer Mark Gee on the 28th of January 2013. After many months, I finally decided to download it a few weeks ago and added it to our wine shop’s video playlist. Drop by anytime if you want to watch it on our video display or if you just want to ask for a copy from us.
